a day in the life....

First of all, we had a fabulous spring break....we did a whole lot of nothing the first few days then headed to KC to see friends and family. It was a great time visiting and playing (and we even squeezed in a dentist appointment for ave and linc :)

today i thought i'd post a little about the mundane...not every minute of our everyday, but some highlights and a few pics. I was reflecting on how full and happy and normal our days feel and appreciating it. no, our house definitely does not look designer inspired, but it's clean. our routine is not filled with pinterest like activities, and our dinner discussions will not win us any Parents magazine awards...but its how we live and we are all very happy and arguably well adjusted :)

so here's the sneak peak...after all we have all the ingredients for tons of fun...

baby on a four wheeler? check

girl roller skating throuh the kitchen? yep

blaring fire-truck riding preschooler? why not?

who could forget the pirate ship meets small car city set up?

in the master bedroom of course

our bench has every home's essentials...baby shoes, view finder disks, treasure chest, and rubber bat

need a stroller? sure, with Aladdin playing in the background

kitchen table with a super hero conference in the foreground...unpacked back pack papers behind them

got to get our 20 minute movie fix while mom fixes dinner

a cat nest/bed made out of a bottom dresser drawer...

a rock incubating under a lamp wrapped in blankets resting on a pillow...who could do without?

babies have to fend for themselves around here

and to complete the family picture? dogs resting comfortably

amidst a parking lot of riding toys

oh yeah, and that wonderful dinner discussion....here ya go!

(Lincoln) mom, what planet are we on?
(me) earth
(Lincoln) oh good, that's my favorite

Kevin pours himself a glass of wine (in a plastic cup of course, no sense dirtying the stemware)
(Lincoln) what's that dad, juice or something?
(Kevin) here smell it (gives both big kids a smell)
(Avery) that's not juice, what's it made of?
(Kevin) grapes
(Avery) oh, yeah. is it grape beer?
(Kevin) kind of, it's called wine
(Avery) I know that, Jesus drank that too, you and Jesus like the same stuff dad!

wrestling match

most evenings after supper the big kids and kevin go into our bedroom and wrestle, tickle, and giggle until they are more than ready to collapse into their beds for the night. Usually, this leaves me and Hen to take his bath and get into bed around 6:30ish. But, because of daylight's savings time this last weekend and the fact that everyone is getting older, we decided to split the time change difference and give everybody an additional half hour before bed. Henry's new bedtime is 7pm, and the big kids...ta-da...8 o'clock. I know, I know, I'm getting a little crazy with all the late-night stuff :) but I think they can handle it.

So the other night was Henry's first official night at the wrestling match! (Excuse the lack of sheets on our bed...it was laundry day, what can I say?)
Yes, Henry has a whistle and was our "referee"

notice...still no pants on!

super baby!

picnic time!

Monday we had temperatures reach the low 70s! It felt great so we audibled our dinner plans and headed to our local Sonic. All of the Sonics here have nice enclosed play areas with picnic tables...it's a little WT, but we had so much fun! It was Henry's first chance to get his hands on some sand and I think he'll do just fine in Florida next month!

my little fashionista

I'm not girly. I've never been girly and honestly never aspire to be. But I LOVE my little girly-girl Avery. I love that she loves fashion, make-up, and all things Taylor Swift. I love that she loves cats, dresses, and anything pink. She loves glitter and sparkles and jewelry. She likes perfume and lip gloss. She likes to dance and carry a purse. It's wonderful learning all these girly ways through the eyes of someone so innocent. One day (too soon) I'm sure I will hate how beatiful and girly she likes to portray herself, but for now I cherish it. After rest time in her room one day last weekend, she emerged to show me herself. She had glitter all over her arms and face, lipstick, eye shadow, blush, her hair styled and a new outfit on. Oh yeah, and she had painted her finger nails, been writing in her journal at her desk and listening to Taylor Swift's newest CD. Seriously? Is she almost 6 or almost 16?!
